MINNEAPOLIS – Perham/New York Mills swimmer Blake Swenson finished 22nd in both of the preliminary rounds of the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle at the Minnesota State Boys Swimming and Diving Championship held last weekend at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
The top 16 finishers moved on to the state finals round.
The sophomore swam the 50-yard freestyle in 22.59 seconds, besting his seeded time of 22.62, and swam the 100-yard freestyle in 50.27, with splits of 24.24 and 26.06.
Swenson entered the state weekend seeded 21st in the 50 free and 24th in the 100-yard freestyle.
He was the lone Perham/New York Mills swimmer to compete at the state meet this year.

Hutchinson junior Conner Hogan won the 50-yard freestyle title with a time of 20.21 seconds. Five of the event’s top 16 swimmers were seniors.
Senior Jack Schurtz-Ford of the Breck-Blake took the 100-yard freestyle title with a time of 44.85.
