Boys swimming and diving: Swenson breaks program record at Mid-State Conference championships

The Perham-New York Mills boys swimming and diving team received multiple honors at the Mid-State Conference meet at Park Rapids on Saturday.

PARK RAPIDS – The Perham-New York Mills boys swimming and diving took home a new program record, an All-Conference champion and multiple All-Conference honorable mentions at the Mid-State Championships on Saturday.

Blake Swenson set a new program record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.64. He also took first-place 100-yard backstroke (58.91), earning an All-Conference nod.

Perham-New York Mills secured a third-place finish with 236 team points. Park Rapids finished as the top team with 492 team points.

Bjorn Anderson ended with two All-Conference honorable mention honors with third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.32) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.71).

Benjamin Mathiason’s 200-yard IM (2:42.50) third-place performance was good enough for an All-Conference honorable mention. Alex Mack was also an honorable mention after finishing second in the 100-yard fly (1:11.50).

The 200-yard medley relay (2:04.69) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.83) teams of Anderson, Mathiason, Mack and Swenson swam to third-place finishes.
