Boys track and field roundup: Yellowjackets take third in two meets

BEMIDJI – Seniors led the way again for the Perham boys track and field team this week.

On Thursday, Jakob McCleary and Connor Kostynick racked up three combined first-place finishes for the Yellowjackets to a third-place finish at the Craig Hougen Indoor Classic.

McCleary took first place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:31.27. Dylan Guck was 27 seconds behind him in fifth place. McCleary also won the 800-meter with a time of 2:00.02.

Kostynick took home the shot put title at 46-feet, 5-inches. Teagan Bennett wasn’t far behind in eighth place at 39-feet, 6.5-inches.

Noah Novotny took third place in the pole vault competition at 12-feet. Micah Thompson paced the Yellowjackets in the 400-meter run at 54.92 seconds.


Perham also took third in its first outdoor competition of the season on Monday in Fergus Falls. Kostynick took first in the discus at 139-feet, 2-inches. He also took second in the shot put at 45-feet, 7-inches. Novotny won the pole vault at 11-feet.

Four Yellowjackets placed in the top eight in the 1,600-meter run. McCleary took second place (4:39.24), while Bjorn Anderson (5:00.61), Caden Doll (5:01.29) and Carter Flatau (5:02.96) took fifth, sixth and eighth, respectively.

Gordy Enyart took third in the long jump at 18-feet, 6-inches. Levi Richter was right behind him in fifth at 17-feet, 8.5-inches. Thompson (38-feet, 2.5-inches) took third in the triple jump, followed by Enyart (36-feet, 11.5-inches) in fourth.
