Cross country: Yellowjackets show out at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS – The Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota is one of the nation's most prestigious cross country events.

The Perham teams showed out last Friday at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The girls took second, while the boys finished in third place in a field of over 50 teams in the maroon races.

Gracie Morris paced the girls with a ninth-place finish at 20:06.2. Ella Hendrickson (20:44.3, 29th), Leelou Novotny (20:46.6, 31st), Quincy Anderson (20:48.0, 33rd) and Mya Morris (21:13.0, 48th) totaled a team score of 146. The Yellowjackets trailed only Brainerd (112) while beating Divine Savior Holy Angels (306), and Woodbury (323). Urbandale (335) and Chaska (335) for a top-2 finish.

Bjorn Anderson added one of his most impressive finishes to his breakout season with a second-place time of 16:37.5. He led the Perham boys to a third-place score of 143.

Micah Thompson clocked in at 17:37.3 in 24th, followed by Dylan Guck (17:41.1, 25th), Caden Doll (18:01.1, 47th) and Carter Flatau (18:05.8, 53rd). The Yellowjackets were 15 points behind Notre Dame for second place. LSW Lee’s Summit West won the events with a total of 121.
