Diving: Lorentz, McAllister and Hamm headed to state

Perham-New York Mills' Brittney Lorentz, and Detroit Lakes' Hope Hamm qualified for the Class A state diving competition with top three finishes at sections on Wednesday.

Three area divers claimed state qualifiers at the Section 8A diving competition on Wednesday night.

Perham-New York Mills’ Brittney Lorentz and Avery McAllister, and Detroit Lakes’ Hope Hamm, finished in the top three in Park Rapids. Lorentz won the section championship, followed by McAllister in second and Hamm in third.

All three are headed back to state for the second consecutive season. Full scores from the diving meet will be posted with the complete list of section results after Saturday.

The diving competition was moved to Wednesday in Park Rapids to accommodate travel with incoming weather in northern Minnesota. The Section 8A preliminary meet is on Friday in Warroad before the finals on Saturday. A full story from the Section 8A meet will be in the next issue of the Perham Focus and Detroit Lakes Tribune.
