Girls swimming and diving: Ziemke, Lorentz bring home gold at Mid-State Conference championships

DETROIT LAKES — The Perham-New York Mills girls swimming and diving team competed in the Mid-State Conference championships on Thursday night.
The Yellowjackets joined Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes. In the end, the Panthers walked away at the Mid-State victors with 523 team points. Detroit Lakes followed with 389 team points, while Perham-New York Mills finished in third at 293

The Yellowjackets had a pair of first-place finishes out of the 12 events but also saw a couple of second-place finishes. Taylor Ziemke paced the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.35. Brittney Lorentz finished first in the diving event with a score of 405.95. Her teammate, Avery McAllister, was right behind her in second place, totaling 370.10.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Elle McDonald, Katelyn Kratzke, Lucy Schultz and Ziemke finished second with a time of 2:07.59. McDonald took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.72.
