Track and field: Perham boys and girls finish first at Little Amik indoor meet

The Perham track and field teams had a successful trip to Bemidji St. University to compete in the Little Amik indoor meet on Tuesday.

BEMIDJI – The Perham track and field teams outshined their competitors as both the boys and girls squads grabbed the top spots at the Little Amik indoor meet on Tuesday.

The boys team finished first with 107 team points and the girl also finished in first with 98 team points. Between the two teams, the Yellowjackets notched nine first-place finishes at Bemidji.

Senior Micah Thompson had himself a day securing first-place finishes in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.48 and in the triple jump with a distance of 38-feet and 8.25-inches. He was also a part of the first-place 4x400-meter relay team of senior Aiden Kennedy and sophomores Bjorn Anderson and Blake Swenson who finished with a time of 3:35.76.

The 4x200-meter relay team of seniors Noah Thompson, Dayton Koetke, Kennedy and sophomore Tyrus Coudron earned a first-place finish with a time of 1:38.65. Junior Noah Novotny vaulted 12-feet, 6-inches to take home first place and Kennedy took home second with a vault of 11-feet.

Anderson grabbed second-place finishes in the 800-meter dash (1:59.07) and the 1600-meter dash (4:24.30). Swenson secured second place behind Thompson in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.67.

On the girls side, senior Lauryn Rustad finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.54. Junior Jaden Hackel took home the gold in the long jump with a distance of 15-feet, 10.5-inches and the triple jump with a distance of 35-feet, 9-inches. Freshman Gracie Morris vaulted 10-feet to take home first place in the pole vault.

Eighth-grader Ella Hendrickson finished second in the 3200-meter dash with a time of 12:36.73. The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Mya Morris, Rustad, Hackel, and Gracie ended with a time of 4:18.72 to end up in second. Senior Maya Richter secured second in the pole vault as she vaulted 9-feet, 6-inches. Junior Kennedy Pilgrim jumped her way into second place in the triple jump with a distance of 34-feet, 11-inches.
