Softball: Yellowjackets have a busy end of the week

The Perham softball team lost big against Browerville on May 12 and competed in a tournament in Park Rapids on May 13

PARK RAPIDS – The Perham softball team had a busy end of the week, playing four games between Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13, with three being played in a weekend tournament hosted by Park Rapids.

The Yellowjackets struggled in their game on Friday against Browerville losing 17-0. Ryleigh Mickelson and Delaney Kellogg secured the only hits of the game for Perham.

The Yellowjackets faced Fergus Falls in the first game of the Park Rapids tournament on Saturday. The Otters snuck away with an 8-5 victory. Morgan Smith finished with a team-high two RBIs. Mickelson ended the game with two hits and accounted for one run. Morgan Burkmann had a multi-hit game with three hits.

Down 16-4 against Fertile-Beltrami, Perham rallied back to cut the lead to 16-11 but couldn’t complete the rally. The Falcons went on to beat the Yellowjackets 18-11. Smith finished the game with a double and triple as part of her three hits. Mallory Greiff and Mickelson each had two hits and accounted for two runs.

Perham found themselves down 12-1 against Park Rapids. The Yellowjackets stung back and cut the lead to 12-11. The Panthers went on to outscore Perham 8-2 and secure a 20-13 victory. Smith ended with a team-high three hits. Marisaa Hopwood, Mari Pulver, Mickelson, Kellogg and Burkmann each recorded two hits.
