Wrestling: Perham has successful Section 8AA Individual Tournament
The Perham wrestling team sends a group of members to the individual state tournament to conclude the individual Section 8AA tournament.
Perham's Braylon Rach wrestles at 182 pounds in the Section 8AA Individual Tournament at Detroit Lakes on Feb. 24-25, 2023, and finished in first place to get a chance to compete at the State Tournament.
DETROIT LAKES – The Yellowjackets will be sending five wrestlers to the Excel Energy Center for the state tournament beginning on Thursday, March 2 and ending Saturday, March 4.
Isaac Adams (120), Chandler Mickelson (132), Braylon Rach (182), Hudson Hackel (195) and Rorey Lindquist (220) all punched their tickets to St. Paul with first or second-place finishes.
Mickelson defeated Sauk Centre-Melrose’s Jose De Los Santos by decision (11-9) in the first-place match. Rach grabbed a first-place finish with a major decision (14-4) victory over Pequot Lakes-Pine River-Backus’ Trey Tuchtenhagen.

Adams defeated Park Rapids’ Wrigley Clark in the second-place wrestleback by decision (7-4) for a state berth. Hackel secured a second-place finish with a win over Fergus Falls’ Sebastian Holding by decision (5-3). Lindquist followed suit with a fall (5:41) victory over Thief River Falls’ Carter Engebretson.
Tiegan Detloff (126), Carson Byer (138), and Johnny Ramos (145) had third-place finishes.
