The Thief River Falls Prowlers and the Detroit Lakes Lakers each were searching for their first win of the new season when they squared off on Nov. 15 at the Kent Freeman Arena.
The Prowlers were coming in after a 3-0 defeat to Bemidji, while the Lakers have dropped their first two games to East Grand Forks and Warroad. The Prowlers used a strong first period and cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Lakers in their first Section 8A contest.
Leah Honer did her best to keep the Lakers in the contest in the net in the first period. The junior goalie stopped 17 of 21 shots in the first period as the Prowlers came at the Lakers in waves during the first period.
Khloe Lund, Bella Amiot, Bela Nelson and Lexi Huot were able to sneak the puck past the junior goalie as the Prowlers lead 4-0 after a period of play.
A quick flurry in the second period led to three goals in two minute span. Lund and Nelson each scored for Thief River Falls, while Emma Coley tallied her team-leading second goal of the season for Detroit Lakes in the span. She made a nice move and was able to send the puck over the shoulder of Gabriella Steele. Adisyn Strand had the lone assist on the goal for the Lakers.

Kia McGlynn and Huot put the finishing touches on the game in the third period when each found the back of the net in the win.
Steele and Bell Hamre combined to stop 11 of 12 Detroit Lakes’ shots in the win. Honer finished with 40 saves on 48 shots. The junior backstop has faced 117 shots in the first three games for the Lakers.
The Prowlers improve to 1-1-0 on the season, while the Lakers drop their season mark to 0-3-0. The Lakers return to action at Breezy Point when they take on Northern Lakes in a Mid-State Conference clash on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
