Prowlers knock off Perham in season-opener

Volleyball is a game of momentum and it was the Thief River Falls Prowlers who seized it late in their 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 24-26, 15-10 victory over the Perham Yellowjackets in Thief River Falls on Aug. 28 to start the season.

Volleyball is a game of momentum and it was the Thief River Falls Prowlers who seized it late in their 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 24-26, 15-10  victory over the Perham Yellowjackets in Thief River Falls on Aug. 28 to start the season.

The battle between the Section 8AA rivals is usually a close one and the 2018 version was no different. The Prowlers opened with wins in the first two sets before Perham rallied for the next two. However, the Prowlers built up a lead in the fifth and final set and held on for the five-point win.

Kylee Hoffard led Thief River Falls with 14 kills, while Madison Kisch added 11 kills. Rebecca Leier finished with seven for the Prowlers.

The Yellowjackets have a mix of experience and youth on their squad this year and they were led by Lily DeBoer and her 14 kills. The sophomore added 15 set assists as well. Ilona Raidis finished with 10 kills as well. Bradlyn Gniffke finished with seven kills. Allie King ended with 20 set assists.

The Yellowjackets open a new era when they take on Wadena-Deer Creek on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the new Perham High School gymnasium. It will mark the first game in the brand new, state-of-the-art gymnasium.
