Quick strike Yellowjackets roll Park Rapids Area

If you blinked in the first quarter, you may have missed a Perham touchdown. The first three Perham drives totaled five plays and resulted in 21 points on their way to a 44-12 victory over Park Rapids Area on Sept. 14 at the Ted Meinhover Field in Perham.

Colton Hackel rushed for two scores and threw for two more in the lop-sided victory over Park Rapids Area. Dawson Kellogg rushed for a pair of touchdowns as well, while Noah Rooney had two touchdown receptions.

The Perham offense wasted little time in the opening quarter. Their three scoring drives totaled 57 seconds and 133 yards. Hackel opened the scoring when broke outside and sprinted along the right sideline for a 31-yard touchdown run. Hackel hit the extra point to make it 7-0.

Hackel went to the airwaves with a pair of short, quick passes to Rooney. Rooney sprinted free for a 37-yard touchdown catch and run. Hackel converted the 2-point conversion with a rush. The duo connected again, but flipped to the other side of the field when Hackel dumped it off to Rooney, who sprinted through the Park Rapids Area defense for a 55-yard catch and run. The 2-point conversion failed but Perham held a commanding 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Jens Anderson connected with Jeff Haas for a 4-yard touchdown strike, the first of two for the Park Rapids Area duo. However, the Panthers didn't have much else offensively in the dominating win for Perham.

Hackel booted a 32-yard field goal, while he added a 12-yard touchdown run and Kellogg capped off the scoring in the first half with a 1-yard run.

Kellogg added a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the lone points of the quarter, while Anderson connected with Haas for a 16-yard score in the fourth quarter for Park Rapids Area to close out the scoring.


The Yellowjackets rushed for 221 yards and passed for 114 yards. The defense held the Park Rapids Area offense to 226 yards. The Panthers rushed for 54 yards on 30 attempts, while passed for 172 yards. The Yellowjackets won the turnover battle as well, forcing three turnovers, while just turning the ball over once.

Hackel rushed for 104 yards on 12 carries, while completing four passes for 114 yards. Finn Diggins rushed for 64 yards on three carries, while Kellogg rushed for 21 yards on 11 carries. Rooney had two receptions for 92 yards, while Maddux Kovash and Diggins each had one reception.

Anderson completed 16 of his 29 pass attempts for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Haas was Anderson's go-to receiver with eight receptions for 61 yards. James Hartig had five receptions for 75 yards.

The Yellowjackets improved their season mark to 3-0 and 2-0 in the Midwest District Red Division. The Yellowjackets are back in action against Fergus Falls at Fergus Falls on Sept. 20. The Otters are 1-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Otters are coming off a 19-6 victory over East Grand Forks. The Otters opened with a 23-0 defeat to Rocori and a 40-0 loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
