The Detroit Lakes Lakers have built up a solid lead during the Section 8AA Boys Golf Championships at the Bemidji Town and Country Club on June 4 after the first day of the two-day event.
The Lakers hold a 16 stroke advantage heading into day two. They finished day one with a round of 311, followed by Fergus Falls with a 327. Roseau sits in third with a 335.
East Grand Fork’s Nate Deziel holds the No. 1 spot by two strokes. He finished the opening day with a 71. Hawley’s Carter Justesen sits in second after firing a 73.
Sophomore Hunter Burnside sits in third after finishing with a 76. All six of the Detroit Lakes’ contingent sit inside the top 15.
The Perham duo of Charlie Rasmussen and Phillip Guck are sitting on the outside looking in at a spot at state. The top five golfers not on the qualifying team earn a trip to the Class AA Championships.

Rasmussen sits 19th overall after finishing with a round of 84. He sits six shots back of Barnesville’s Adam Tonsfeldt, who currently holds that fifth spot. Tonsfeldt is seventh overall in the competition.
Guck came into the clubhouse with a round of 98.
The pair of Perham golfers look to build on their opening day and gain ground on the field in the second day of the Section 8AA Championships at the Bemidji Town and Country Club, which continues on June 5.
