Record breaking week for Yellowjackets

The Perham Yellowjacket Track and Field teams continued their strong run with a meet victory in Hawley on May 3, before dropping their first meet of the season at Pelican Rapids on May 5. The Yellowjackets went with a shortened lineup at the Hank Emmel Invitational in Pelican Rapids,, prepping for the annual Section True Team Championships.

However, it was a record breaking week for members of the Yellowjacket girls team. Jordan Martinson shattered her old record in the pole vault during the Hawley Booster Invitational. Martinson vaulted 10 feet, four inches, breaking her old record of 10 feet, which she set at the Class A Championships last year.

The Yellowjacket 4x100 meter relay team set a new mark at the Hank Emmel Invitational with a time of 51.57. The team of Ashley Zitzow, Lizzy LaFond, Mesa Schultz and Martinson broke the record set in 2004 by Ali Dewar, Eve Dewar, Betsy Mann and Kelcie Priebe.

At Hawley, the Yellowjacket girls finished with 186 points, besting the competition. Morris Area came in second with 142 points, followed by Pelican Rapids in third with 79 points.

The Yellowjacket boys finished first with 208.33 points, while Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal came in second with 106 points. Pelican Rapids was third with 75 points.

Brynnan Covington won the 800 meter run with a time of two minutes, 28.91 seconds, while Hailey Wegscheid finished first in the 1600 meter run, finishing with a time of 5:54.49.

Lacy Richter was first in the 300 hurdles. She ended the race with a winning time of 51.37. The Perham 4x100 meter relay ended with a time of 52.83, while the 4x800 meter relay team dominated the field, finishing first with a time of 10:26.88.

Martinson was first in the pole vault with a winning vault of 10-4, setting the new school mark. Mesa Schultz won the long jump with a leap of 16-1.

Perham's Carson Speicher finished first in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 2:08.12. Aaron Wegscheid led the field to the finish line in the 1600 run, ending with a time of 5:07.02.

Clayton Anderson continued the distance domination for Perham. He was victorious with a time of 10;35.53 in the 3200 meter run.

Cole Carignan won the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 45.52. The Perham 4x800 meter relay team earned top honors, finishing with a winning time of 8:56.22.

Zack Zajac won the high jump, with a jump of 5-8. Martin LaFond was the top jumper in the long jump. He finished first with a leap of 16-10.25.

Tyler Berby won the triple jump for the Yellowjackets, leaping 39-2. Perham's Adam Dykhoff was first in the discus, with a winning toss of 137-9.

The Yellowjackets used a shortened lineup at the Hank Emmel Invitational on May 5 in Pelican Rapids. The boys team finished fourth overall with 55 points, while the girls were tied for second with 87 points. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton won the boys title with 124 points, while Fargo Oak Grove claimed the girls title with 97 points.

Jenna Wegscheid was victorious for Perham in the 3200 meter run, finishing with a time of 12:41.56. The Perham 4x100 meter relay team set the new standard for the Yellowjackets with a time of 51.57, while the 4x200 meter relay team came in first as well, finishing with a time of 1:50.67. The 4x800 meter relay team came in first place with a time of 10:48.39. Martinson finished tied for first in the pole vault, with a vault of 9-6.

Leah Muer won the discus event for the Yellowjackets, finishing with a toss of 103-1.

Perham's Nick Listrom won the 3200 meter run for the boys. He finished with a time of 10:53.26.
