The Perham Ladies Charity 7th annual Golf Event to benefit Someplace Safe will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 at Perham Lakeside Golf Club.

The event is an important fundraiser for Someplace Safe, a nonprofit organization working to eliminate violence in West Central Minnesota and beyond.

“People come in with so many different needs,” Karry Spinar, Crime Victim Advocate, said. “The needs change from person to person.”

The golf tournament is gaining momentum after reaching their highest number of attendees last year of 60 golfers.

“We have lots of out of town teams and great attendance from our locals too,” Tournament Coordinator Connie Mort said.

Connie, along with her husband Brian, have run the tournament since its inception.

“It was Connie’s idea,” Brian said.

The Morts are responsible for a lot of community action in Perham, namely the tall task of running concessions at Perham High School events, which raises much needed funds for the athletic and arts programs at the school.

The tournament is made possible by the generosity of many Perham sponsors.

“The support of the community is great,” said Mort. “We beat the pavement and everybody opens up.”

The donations from local businesses are given away at the tournament via door prizes, raffles and a silent auction.

The goal of the event is a fun time on the golf course but more importantly to raise funds for an important cause.

“It’s very important to help keep us going,” said Spinar.
