The Perham softball team is hungry to play after losing last season because of COVID-19. With new head coach Jason Groth at the helm and eight seniors returning, the Yellowjackets feel they have a chance to compete for the section and conference titles.

"The goal for our team is like most, which is to make a run at the Section 8AA Championship and the Heart O'Lakes Conference Title," Groth said. "Both feature some very good teams, but I think we are a team that will be in the mix if we continue to improve every day."

Section 8AA and the HOL conference has many strong teams, including Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton and Hawley. Thief River Falls, Park Rapids, and Pequot Lakes are also traditionally tough in the section as are the Yellowjackets conference rivals in the HOL.

Returning seniors include Emma Daniels, Leah Honer, Katie Johnson, Elayna Kawleski, Lily Lorenson, Grayce Mickelson, Lauren Schreader, and Alivia Trepanier. They will all be key contributors to the team during the season, and they all bring several different things to the table, according to Groth.

"This is a fun group to coach," Groth said. "They are always willing to work hard and have been eager to learn more about the game. Our senior leaders have done a great job of stepping up in the first few weeks of practice and I look for that to continue as the season moves on."
