An informational meeting for Special Olympics Minnesota's Athlete Leadership Program (ALPs) will be held Wednesday, September 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Productive Alternatives Inc., 802 Jenny Avenue in Perham.
Community members interested in getting involved and changing lives as athlete mentors are invited to attend.
The evening will feature a complimentary dinner and a presentation by athlete leaders entitled "ALPs in Your Backyard" which will show local teams and community members the wide variety of ALPs opportunities and their benefits.
Athletes, their families and others who are interested in opportunities with ALPs are also invited to attend.
ALPs opportunities allow athletes to choose how and in what role they participate in Special Olympics Minnesota.

The programs encourage athletes to take meaningful positions of influence and leadership throughout the organization to help determine policy and set direction.
Through ALPs, athletes receive additional training as they develop their leadership skills and gain knowledge about the responsibilities of becoming an effective board or committee member.
