The Perham girls basketball team ran its winning streak to five games with a 55-45 victory over the Pequot Lakes Patriots on Feb. 4 in Pequot Lakes.
The Yellowjackets used a dominant first half in grabbing a 27-10 lead into the break. One of the keys, according to Perham head coach TJ Super, was the play of their defense. The Yellowjackets blanketed the Patriots for much of the first half, making it tough for them to find an open look.
However, the Patriots played much better in the second half and the Yellowjackets had a slight letdown. The Patriots rallied, but could not overcome the first half deficit, despite outscoring the Yellowjackets 35-28.
Maci Martini caught fire for the Patriots when she finished with 23 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
Leading the Yellowjackets in scoring was Katie Johnson and Willow Thiel. The duo finished with 14 points each. Johnson connected on four 3-pointers in the game. Grayce Mickelson and Sydney Anderson added eight points each as well.

The victory improved the Yellowjackets to 15-6 on the season. They return to action with an HOL contest on Feb. 6 at Barnesville and a Section 8AA clash with Wadena-Deer Creek on Feb. 7 in Wadena.
