PERHAM -- The Yellowjackets tennis team defeated Wadena-Deer Creek, while dropping matches to East Grand Forks and annual powerhouse Staples-Motley Thursday afternoon.

"It was fun to watch our boys hit the ball so well," Head Coach Kyle Knutson said. "We are going to continue to strive towards our goal of getting better each day and be at our best tennis for the conference tournament and section play."

Perham swept the doubles against Wadena-Deer Creek getting victories from the top team of Randy Swanson and James Hersch in three sets (6-3 3-6 6-4).

Christian Hinckley and Al Shoeneberger blacked their opponents in three-doubles love and love.

The Wolverines swept the first three singles matches putting the deciding match at four-doubles.

Perham's Mike Botzet posted a 6-0 6-0 victory over Nate Daigneault to seal the Perham victory.

"I was very pleased with how our boys played today. It was a long, but fun day of tennis," Knutson said. "We found some things that we need to improve on but that is how you get better as a team."

Staples-Motley, who defeated Perham 4-3 in Staples April 10, kicked their games into high gear and shutout the Yellowjackets 7-0. The Cardinals did the same to Detroit Lakes April 17. The Lakers will be in Perham Monday, April 30 to battle the Jackets.

Perham opened the day with a close 4-3 loss to East Grand Forks.
