The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team returned home for a trio of dual meets when it hosted section rivals Roseau and East Grand Forks, before taking on state-ranked Pequot Lakes on Aug. 29 at the Perham Tennis Courts.

The Yellowjackets finished the day with a pair of key section wins, defeating Roseau 5-2 and East Grand Forks 4-3. Their lone blemish came in a 5-2 defeat to Pequot Lakes.

It capped off a strong week of play for the Yellowjackets. Earlier in the week, the Yellowjackets captured the Pirate Booster Tournament and should give the Yellowjackets momentum as they prepare for the stretch run of their season.

The Yellowjackets claimed three of the four singles points against Roseau and two of the three doubles points on their way to a 5-2 win. Jade Lenius was victorious over Haylee Bennett 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while JoJo Winkels defeated Maddy Verbout 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Avery Beachy won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Ella Trangsrud. Julia Braaten earned the lone Roseau win when she defeated Mallory Belka 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 4 singles.

Kiersten Flaig and Lindsey McFarlane defeated Mirta Vorderbruggen and Malia Groff, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while the Perham/NYM team of Kiera Radniecki and Kendra Moris won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. LaVonne Lindberg and Maggie Trites defeated Emma Zimmerman and Masynn Janicke in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to close out the doubles portion at No. 3 doubles.

The Yellowjackets earned two singles points and two doubles points in a 4-3 victory over East Grand Forks in their second match of the day. Maggie Dietrich defeated Lenius in three sets at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 5-7 and 10-7, while Brynn Havis defeated Radniecki at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 4-6 and 10-6. Winkels was victorious at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hanah Jensen-Selnes, while Belka rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lila Rothenberger.

Vorderbruggen and Groff earned a 7-6 (8-6), 4-6 and 13-11 win over Delaney Aker and Kendal Rand at No. 1 doubles. The team of Katelyn Farder and Aleah Oshie defeated Beachy and Moris at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8) and 10-7). Lindberg and Trites were victorious over Kenady Burris and Thea Haaven-Farstad 6-2, 6-7 and 13-11 at No. 3 doubles.

The day came to a close with a 5-2 defeat to Pequot Lakes for the Perham/NYM tennis team. Winkels earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over Madeline Pluimer, while the doulbes team of Jazzmin Branchaud and Lindberg defeated Quin Trottier and Kelbee Lampi 2-6, 6-2 and 10-5 for the lone points for Perham/NYM.

Lenius suffered a 2-6, 1-6 defeat to Courtney Boller at No. 1 singles, while Beachy lost 2-6, 4-6 at No. 3 singles to Carley Chaney. Belka was defeated at No. 4 singles, 4-6 and 5-7.

Vorderbruggen and Groff lost 1-6, 1-6 to Alexa Fyle and Ellie Saxerud at No. 1 doubles, while Radniecki and Moris were edged out 1-6, 6-7 (1-7) at No. 2 doubles.

The Yellowjackets return to their home court on Sept. 5 for a home dual with Crosby-Ironton at 4:30 pm. at the Perham Tennis Courts.
