The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team responded to a tough 4-3 defeat to Staples-Motley with a 7-0 win against Wadena-Deer Creek to close out the regular season for dual meet competition on Sept. 26 in Wadena.
The victory improved the Yellowjackets to 14-3 overall in dual meet competition and will have them ready for a run in the Section 8A playoffs.
The playoffs begin on Oct. 10 with the team competition and close out on Oct. 12 with individual singles and doubles play at Courts Plus in Fargo.
Jade Lenius earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Corra Endres at No. 1 singles, while JoJo Winkels earned a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kaylee Ova at No. 2 singles. Avery Beachy was victorious in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 against Libby Hartman, while Mallory Belka earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kelly Muckala.
Mirta Vorderbruggen and Malia Groff picked up a victory when they went to the wire against Ashley Peterson and Madison Packer. Vorderbruggen and Groff won in three sets, 5-7, 6-3 and 11-9, at No. 1 doubles. Kiera Radniecki and Kendra Moris defeated Nevada Schulz and Katie Fiemeyer at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2. The team of LaVonne Lindberg and Maggie Trites were victorious at No. 3 doubles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Madelyn Gallant and Kayla Meeks.
Earlier in the week, the Yellowjackets traveled to Staples to take on the Staples-Motley Cardinals in a closely contested battle. The Cardinals earned a narrow 4-3 victory over Perham/NYM.
The Cardinals picked up the win by sweeping the singles portion of the event. Perham/NYM won all three matches on the doubles side of the match.
Lauren Rutten defeated Lenius 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Jenna Dvorak was victorious at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1 against Moris. Rose Itan defeated Lindberg at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4. Allison Knosalla picked up a victory over Belka at No. 4 singles in a match that went three sets. Knosalla won the match 6-3, 2-6 and 6-1.
Winkels and Radnieck defeated Haley Cichos and Tasha Achermann in three sets at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, 6-2 and 6-4. Beachy and Vorderbruggen earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Katie Smith and Georgia Kruchten at No. 2 doubles, while the team of Groff and Trites earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Amy Rollins and Kenzie Erickson at No. 3 doubles.
