The Perham boys tennis team won two of its singles matches, but it was unable to match Detroit Lakes' doubles teams in a 5-2 loss Thursday, April 29, in Detroit Lakes.
Josh Peterson won at 1st singles for the Yellowjackets, defeating DL's Reed Henderson 6-0, 6-1. At 3rd singles, Jack Birkeland defeated DL's Breck Winter 6-2, 6-3.
According to head coach Lori Peterson, Mikey Schwantz had a tough battle at 2nd singles, and the doubles teams weren't able to beat some good DL tennis doubles teams.
"Our doubles teams had some great hard-fought points and close matches but weren't able to beat some good DL tennis doubles teams," Peterson said. "Our doubles are communicating well on the court and really starting to mesh as a team. We just need to work on being a little more confident at the net and being aggressive with groundstrokes."
The Yellowjackets and the Lakers meet again this week in Perham for a 4:30 p.m. meet Thursday, May 6.
