For the third straight season, the fourth-ranked Perham Yellowjackets traveled to Grand Forks on a mission. The mission was to defend its Sertoma Tournament Championship. The Yellowjackets did just that as they dismantled the field on the way to the championship in the dual meet tournament on Dec. 7 and 8 in Grand Forks, N.D.

Perham defeated Thief River Falls 56-12 in the championship, it was the second win over Thief River Falls in three days, defeated Badger-Greenbush/Middle River 58-9, downed West Fargo 76-6 and Red River 78-3.

"I thought the guys wrestled well. Our intensity was very good," Perham head coach Robb Moser said. "Each kid in our program experienced success and some guys really had some break out matches."

The Yellowjackets are now 6-0 in dual meets after winning the Perham Triangular in their season-debut at the Hive on Dec. 7. The Yellowjackets defeated Thief River Falls 42-15 and Bemidji 52-19 in their opening contests.

In the championship contest at Sertoma, The Yellowjackets repeated the feat of defeating their section rivals in Thief River Falls.

Moser said they rarely remember how they do in the early season tournaments and their focus is to get some good matches under their belt and come together as a team.

"That being said, it is good to see consistency in our performance from year to year," Moser said. "I think we have a large number of kids on our team that have learned how to win, are prepared mentally and expect to win."

Aaron Lorentz, Jack Fudge, Dylan Fudge, Brian Ramos and Zach Peterson earned victories by fall. Blaze Brady, Gabe Bellefeuille and Ty Moser picked up decision victories, while Owen Werner and Colton Kostynick picked up forfeit victories.

Cody Wienen, Cade Lundeen and Jake Davis picked up victories for Thief River Falls in the championship.

The Yellowjackets breezed to the finals with a 58-9 victory over Badger/Greenbush-Middle River.

Lorentz, Brady, Bellefeuille, Peterson and Moser captured fall victories, while Leighton Rach, Dylan Fudge, Ramos and Dawson Kellogg picked up decision wins, while Jack Fudge captured a major decision win en route to the dual meet victory. Werner picked up a forfeit win as well.

The Yellowjackets cruised in the quarterfinals with a 76-6 win over West Fargo. Perham dropped one match on their way to the victory. Werner won by fall as did Blake Lorentz, Rach, Jack Fudge, Dylan Fudge, Peterson, Moser, Kellogg and Rowdie Lindquist. Brady won by default and Ramos and Bellefeuille picked up forfeit wins.

Perham rolled in the tournament opener with a 78-3 victory over Red River. Perham picked up six wins by forfeit and seven wins by pin on its way to the 75-point win. Brady, Bellefeuille, Coltan Satter, Rach, Jack Fudge, Peterson and Moser earned fall victories.

Perham Triangular

The Yellowjackets opened the Hive in grand fashion with a pair of victories at the Perham Triangular with Thief River Falls and Bemidji. The Yellowjackets opened the season with a 42-15 victory over the Prowlers.

"Thursday night was really fun to open the Hive up with two good opponents," Moser said. "That was a real impressive atmosphere for wrestling."

Aaron Lorentz set the tone with an 11-4 decision win over Kale Geiser. Owen Werner followed with a fall victory at 56 seconds over Ethan Lane. Blaze Brady followed with a major decision win over Griffin Lundeen.

Thief River Falls followed with four straight wins by Cody Wienen, Brady Kasprick, Cade Lundeen and Jake Davis.

Moser said in the team's short-term training that they are stressing for the Rumble on the Red and the Clash.
