Perham runs past the field at Sub-Section Championships

The Perham boys track and field team dominated the field at the Section 6A, Sub-Section 22 Championships in Sebeka on May 23.

The meet is the first step on the way to the Class A Track and Field Championships and the Yellowjackets will be well-represented at the Section 6A Championships on May 30 in Fergus Falls. The top five individuals as well as the top two relay teams advance to the Section 6A event in Fergus Falls.

Perham won the team title with 169 points, while Wadena-Deer Creek came in second with 118 points. Ottertail Central was third with 117 and Breckenridge came in fourth with 60 points. Parkers Prairie was fifth with 32 points.

The Yellowjackets continued its strong run in the distance events, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs individually and capturing the 3200m relay as well.

Jakob McCleary was first in the 800m run at two minutes and 2.15 seconds. Brandon O'Hara came in first of the 1600m run at 4:31.00. O'Hara finished first in the 3200m run as well with a time of 9:48.59.

Chase Belka, McCleary, Bailey Evenson and Clayton Anderson combined to win the 3200m relay event. They finished with a winning time of 8:15.3.3

Perham earned a pair of victories in the hurdles races as well when Isaac Scheidecker took first in the 110m hurdles and Elijah Morris was first in the 300m hurdles. Scheidecker finished with a time of 15.78, while Morris crossed the line at 44.84.

Colton Hackel earned top honors in the triple jump for Perham as well. He finished with a leap of 40 feet, two inches.

Evenson finished second in the 1600m run and qualified for the section finals. The 400m relay team of Morris, Hackel, Isaac Brown and Dylan Lysne finished second to qualify. The relay team of Belka, McCleary, John LaFond and Scheidecker came in second in the 1600m relay. Morris was second in the high jump while Colton Kostynick earned a pair of second place finishes in the shot put and discus throws for Perham. Scheidecker took second in the long jump as well.

Anderson qualified with a third place finish in the 800m run, while Hackel was third in the long jump to qualify for the section finals.

Carter Aakre earned a pair of spots at the section finals when he finished fifth in the 300m hurdles and the pole vault. Dakota Perry will compete in the section finals after finishing fifth in the discus event.

The qualifying members of the Perham boys track and field team will hope to stamp their name in the Class A Championships when they compete at Fergus Falls on May 30. The field events begin at 11 a.m., with the running preliminaries at 12:15 p.m. and the finals set to start at 12:45 p.m.
