Grunewald shown at home 'resting' among family and friends in a photo posted by her husband
Professional runner Gabriele (Anderson) Grunewald is home and "resting peacefully," according to her husband Justin Grunewald, who posted an entry on his Instagram account Monday, June 10.
"We got her home to our comfy couch and she is resting peacefully and breathing easy surrounded by her best friends and family," Justin Grunewald wrote.
The Instagram posted included a photo of Gabriele, a 2004 Perham (Minn.) High School graduate, resting on the couch surrounded by family and friends.
She has dealt with multiple bouts of cancer and was first diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma in 2009 during her running career at the University of Minnesota.
Sunday, Justin Grunewald wrote in an Instagram post that Gabriele, 32, had been moved to comfort care after her condition had worsened over the weekend.

“There are only two ways to live your life. One as though nothing is a miracle, the other as though everything is a miracle.” @gigrunewald chose the latter. We got her home to our comfy couch and she is resting peacefully and breathing easy surrounded by her best friends and family. She made it home in time to see some extra special finishes @chipgaines, @joannagaines, and @brockwayne put on our new condo to make it feel like home. For that, I have no words. #bravelikegabe #runningonhope #keeprunningonhope
Gabriele has become an inspiration to many during her long fight with cancer that she shared with the public. She started her professional running career in 2010.
She started the Brave Like Gabby Foundation (bravelikegabe.org) in 2018 "to support rare cancer research and empower cancer survivors through physical activity," the foundation's website states. The #BraveLikeGabe hashtag was first started to support Gabriele.

Here is a pic of Gabriele Grunewald in our high school and the caption is so fitting! Gabe has always show poise even in the face of uncertainty! Gabriele Grunewald has received an outpouring of support from the running community and beyond on social since Justin Grunewald, who also ran for the Gophers, announced she was being moved to comfort care.
Your support always meant the world to me. You are a role model and inspiration to many including myself. Your signed spike you gave me will be in my classroom and I’ll tell my students/athletes exactly what it means to be #BraveLikeGabe. Sending prayers to you and your family. https://t.co/NiIQONS89K
