Senior track and field athlete Tyler Berby and senior softball player Payton Gaber have been recognized as Minnesota State University Moorhead/Courtyard by Marriott Athletes of the Week.
MSUM athletics will honor seniors for the spring sports who have not previously received the athlete of the week honor in 2019-20 whose seasons were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Berby competed mainly in the triple jump during his four-year Dragon career. He finished 11th at the NSIC Indoor Championships on Feb. 29. He had a runner-up finish in the triple at the Beaver Invite on Jan. 25, recording a jump of 43-8. His career-best outdoor jump game on April 19, 2019 at the Blue Hawk Games in Dickinson when he jumped 45-9 1/4. The Perham native earned six NSIC All-Academic honors (indoors and outdoors).
In 14 games this year Gaber hit .244 with two doubles, a homer and six RBI. She added a .991 fielding percentage. She will conclude her Dragon career with a .309 batting average along with 24 doubles, two homers and 39 RBI. The Stevens Point, Wis., native will end her career as a three-time NSIC All-Academic selection as well. And was a recipient of the Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award this past January.
