Perham senior Jada Olsen decided she was going to go out on top, winning her second consecutive all-around title at the Minnesota Class A State Gymnastics championship Friday, March 26. Olsen also placed first in vault and uneven bars and placed fourth in floor.

Overall, the team took fourth in the state meet. Head coach Jenna Kupferschmid was pleased with the team’s performance.

“They had their second best score of the year,” Kupferschmid said. “We started on vault and scored our season high. Bars is probably our weakest event and our goal is always just to have no falls and keep the high energy going, and they did just that.”

Olsen echoed her coach. "Making it to state is half the battle for us, so just being there together was awesome," Olsen said. "We had a few girls get personal best scores which was huge and we fought hard."

She reflected on her time as a Yellowjacket. "I've reached (almost) all of my goals. I've beaten records, I've shown my best and my worst at times, but I got to do it with the most amazing team, coaches, and fans by my side," Olsen said. "This team gave me the perfect last season and I am so grateful for my time as a Yellowjacket."

Since Olsen is the only senior on the team, Perham will have a lot of talent returning. Kupferschmid talked about the team’s youth and how it bodes well for the team’s future.

“The girls did awesome and showed good sportsmanship with the other gymnasts from our section who made it individually,” she said. “We had a great season and with such a young team, they are going to do great next year as well!”
