Kelsi Vomacka, 2011 Perham graduate, helped the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics team place third at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) championships held March 23 and 24 at The College of Brockport in New York state.
The UW-L Eagles finished with a team score of 187.200 while The College of Brockport and UW-Whitewater tied for the national title with a score of 188.050. Vomacka and teammate Katie Palluck tied for ninth on the floor exercise (9.525) during the team competition, which qualified her for the individual national championships.
In the individual national championships, Vomacka picked up her first career NCGA All-American honors scoring a 9.425 and placing 11th on the floor exercise.
On the season, the Eagles captured their 21st Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, which is the most in conference history. They also won the NCGA West Regional championships. In the regional championships, Vomacka placed 5th overall with a score of 9.425 on the floor exercise.
When discussing the teams achievements in the championships, Coach Barbara Gibson stated, "When an eagle approaches a storm, it faces it head on; locks its massive and powerful wings, and rises above the storm to soar. I'd say this team did that this weekend."
