Needing one more win to capture the Mid-State Conference regular season crown, the Perham/New York Mills tennis team accomplished its goal of finishing a perfect conference season with a 6-1 victory over Staples-Motley in Staples on Oct. 2.

The Yellowjackets won three of the four singles matches and swept the doubles portion, claiming the victory. It improves the Yellowjackets to 10-4 overall and they finished with a perfect 6-0 mark against conference foes.

“Overall, I thought everyone competed really well,” Perham/NYM head coach Jameson Miller said. “Our girls have really improved on moving on a lot of more quickly from anything negative and that will be important to keep improving and focusing on as we approach sections.”

The Yellowjackets continue to show that they will be a tough out in the Section 8A playoffs when those begin and have been building momentum towards the postseason. They have a pair of dual meets upcoming with section opponents, before the postseason begins on Oct. 12.

“I’m proud of the girls on going undefeated in regular season conference matches,” Miller said. “I’m also proud of our girls that have graduated as they still have their fingerprints on our program. We have to stay focused and keep improving as we have sections approaching.”
