Perham wrestlers climb in the rankings

The Perham wrestling team picked up one of its biggest regular season wins in recent history when they defeated Simley to close out the regular season. It was a statement-making victory for the Yellowjackets and one impact from that win was recently released by the Guillotine.

The Yellowjackets moved up in the final Class AA rankings before the Section 8AA Championships on Feb. 16 in Thief River Falls.

Kasson-Mantorville, the defending Class AA Champion, remains at the top, ranked No. 1 overall. Perham has moved into the No. 2 spot, while Simley is ranked third. Fairmont/Martin County West sits at No. 4, while Scott West is ranked fifth. Waconia, Foley, Detroit Lakes, Hutchinson and Marshall round out the top 10. The final two teams in the rankings are Delano and Totino-Grace. Pierz and Thief River Falls are listed in the Lean and Mean category.

Individually, the Yellowjackets have several ranked wrestlers throughout. Owen Werner is ranked second at 106 pounds, while Leighton Rach is ranked ninth at 132 pounds. Jack Fudge sits at No. 3 at 145 pounds, while Dylan Fudge is ranked second at 152 pounds.

Brian Ramos entered the rankings by cracking the top 10 at 170 pounds when he was ranked 10th. Zach Peterson is ranked third for Perham at 182, while Ty Moser remains the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 195 pounds. Dawson Kellogg is the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 220 pounds.

The Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 26-1 record and will be the No. 1 seed for the Section 8AA Championships at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls on Feb. 16.
