PERHAM - The official start of the Perham cross country season got underway this past weekend with the team’s two-mile time trial. The boys team prepares to defend a state and national title while the girls look to attain the school’s first-ever state championship. Continued success in the program has 67 runners out for cross country this season - 43 boys and 24 girls. Senior Keeghan Hurley won the time trial finishing two miles in 9:33.4, 22 seconds quicker than last season when he won the race as a junior.
In fact, the top five boys finishers this year were faster than last year’s top five, and that was a team that dominated all the way to an impressive state championship win that was not close. This year’s top five were Hurley, Ben Sullivan (10:22.9); Billy Beseman (10:29.5), Jayden Cullen (10:37.7) and Chris Knutson (11:08.7). “All I can say is wow!” Head Coach Jeff Morris said. “Compare this team to last year and you get an idea of how good this group can be too.” Eight girls missed the time trial, including freshman standout Brynnan Covington, making for a difficult to measure comparison to last year’s team. Familiar names finished in the top five for the girls with sophomore Sydney Karels leading the way at 12:55.5. The next four were: senior Lizzie Fudge (13:01.8); senior Mary Riestenberg (13:21.9); senior Racole Karels (13:38.2) and junior Marlee Curtis (14:20.3). The girls’ team has a great mix of leadership from upperclassmen to go along with a lot of talent from some younger runners, especially Covington who is near the front of the pack in every race she runs. “Our girls team is gonna make some history in their program,” Morris said. Both teams open their regular season next Monday, August 26 in Moorhead at 10 a.m.   2013 Perham XC 2-mile Time Trial results Boys Place/Name/Time/Pace 1 Keeghan Hurley 9:33.4 4:47/M 2 Ben Sullivan 10:22.9 5:11/M 3 Billy Beseman 10:29.5 5:15/M 4 Jayden Cullen 10:37.7 5:19/M 5 Chris Knutson 11:02.7 5:31/M 6 Kanyon Edvall 11:07.9 5:34/M 7 Jacob Dickerson 11:18.4 5:39/M 8 Hunter Salathe 11:21.7 5:41/M 9 Carson Speicher 11:36.8 5:48/M 10 Hunter Kjelshus 11:48.8 5:54/M 11 Tanner Monson 11:49.0 5:55/M 12 Nathan Coleman 11:52.3 5:56/M 13 Adam Siira 12:04.4 6:02/M 14 Nickolas Listrom 12:19.4 6:10/M 15 Leighton Covington 12:26.2 6:13/M 16 Cole Carignan 16 0-99 12:32.0 6:16/M 17 Aaron Wegscheid 12:35.8 6:18/M 18 Chase Lietz 12:38.4 6:19/M 19 Tyler Fudge 12:48.1 6:24/M 20 Alex Tostenson 12:59.2 6:30/M 21 Matthew Stoll 13:14.4 6:37/M 22 Alex Wegscheid 13:19.3 6:40/M 23 Mathew Siira 13:28.4 6:44/M 24 Trevor Guck 13:32.0 6:46/M 25 Aaron Solberg 13:56.0 6:58/M 26 Clayton Anderson 14:07.0 7:04/M 27 Dylan Fudge 14:36.6 7:18/M 28 Austin Gray 14:43.1 7:22/M 29 Jett Karels Perham 15:36.1 7:48/M 30 Eli Roe Perham 15:37.8 7:49/M 31 Dalton Horner 15:45.4 7:53/M 32 Kevin Swanson 15:48.3 7:54/M 33 Michael Beach 15:55.8 7:58/M 34 Henry Sweere  16:15.9 8:08/M 35 Caleb Mycke 16:44.7 8:22/M 36 Maddie McCrary 16:49.9 8:25/M 37 Elijah Morris 17:03.1 8:32/M 38 Isaac Scheidecker 18:32.9 9:16/M Girls Place/Name/Time/Pace1 Sydney Karels  12:55.5 6:28/M 2 Lizzie Fudge 13:01.8 6:31/M 3 Mary Riestenberg 13:21.9 6:41/M 4 Racole Karels 13:38.6 6:49/M 5 Marlee Curtis 14:20.3 7:10/M 6 Allie Hoeft 14:36.5 7:18/M 7 Brooklyn Koetke 14:42.5 7:21/M 8 Emma Sweere 14:56.8 7:28/M 9 Megan McCrary 15:33.3 7:47/M 10 Lourdes (Lula) Anderson 16:04.9 8:02/M 11 Jenna Wegscheid 16:12.8 8:06/M 12 Maria Lorenson 17:48.3 8:54/M 13 Victoria Paridon 17:57.9 8:59/M 14 Teri Harthun 18:05.3 9:03/M 15 Aimee Christopherson 18:54.1 9:27/M 16 Amelia Potrament 20:24.0 10:12/M  PERHAM - The official start of the Perham cross country season got underway this past weekend with the team’s two-mile time trial. The boys team prepares to defend a state and national title while the girls look to attain the school’s first-ever state championship.Continued success in the program has 67 runners out for cross country this season - 43 boys and 24 girls.Senior Keeghan Hurley won the time trial finishing two miles in 9:33.4, 22 seconds quicker than last season when he won the race as a junior.
