Yellowjackets continue strong start season

The Perham Yellowjackets continued its home dominance by sweeping the Perham Invitational on April 19 at the Meinhover Athletic Complex.

It was the second consecutive home sweep for the Yellowjackets and third sweep overall after winning the Harrington Early Bird, kicking off the season.

The Yellowjacket girls finished with 222 points, claiming the title in runaway fashion. Frazee finished second with 95 points, while Ashby/Brandon/Evansville came in third with 72 points. Breckenridge/Wahpeton finished fourth, followed by Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale in fifth.

The boys were dominant as well for the Yellowjackets, finishing with 181 points overall. Frazee followed in second place with 110 points. Breckenridge/Wahpeton came in third with 105.5 points, while Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale finished fourth, followed by Prairie Valley in fifth.

Brynnan Covington finished first in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of two minutes, 26.80 seconds. She led a trip of Yellowjackets across the line. Sydney Karels was second at 2:32.10 and in third was Ashley Hokanson at 2:32.49.

Caitlin Covington earned first place honors in the 1600 meter run, ending with a time of 5:41.48, she was followed by Hailey Wegscheid in second and Jenna Wegscheid in third. Hailey finished with a time of 5:46.03, while Jenna came in at 5:49.23.

Ashley Zitzow posted the fastest time in the 100 hurdles, finishing first with a time of 17.50. The Perham 4x400 meter relay earned top honors, finishing at 4:24.56.

Jordan Martinson led the way in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet for first place. Sydney Bahls finished second, vaulting at 8-6.

Mesa Schultz earned the long jump victory, leaping 15-4, for first place honors.

Leah Muer earned second place honors in the shot and the discus for Perham. She had a put of 31-2, and a toss of 85-8.

Lizzy LaFond earned second place honors in the 100 meter dash, finishing at 13.56, while Rachel Muer was second in the 400 meter dash at 1:07.34. Brooklyn Koetke finished second in the 3200 meter run, earning a time of 14:25.16. Lacy Richter was second in the 300 hurdles, crossing the line at 51.45. The Perham 4x100 and 4x200 relays both finished second, finishing with times of 53.47 and 1:56.41, respectively.

Hunter Kjelshus led four Yellowjackets across the line in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 2:05.39. He was followed by Carson Speicher at 2:05.72, Adam Siira at 2:11.17 and Nathan Coleman at 2:14.81.

Jacob Dickerson took home top honors in the 1600 meter run, finishing with a time of 4:48.70. Clayton Anderson finished second, ending with a time of 4:56. 30.

Nick Listrom finished first in the 3200 meter run, crossing the line at 10:57.84. The Yellowjacket 4x400 meter relay team came in first at 3:42.90, while Tyler Berby was first in the triple jump, leaping 38-4.

Cole Carignan finished second for the Yellowjackets in the 110 meter hurdles. He ended with a time of 17.06. The Perham 4x100 relay ended in second at 48.35, while the 4x200 meter relay team came in at 1:43.87, earning second as well.

The Yellowjackets have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Friday, April 22 at the DGF Booster meet, starting at 4 p.m.
