Yellowjackets crown four champions at Section 8AA Championships

The Perham wrestling team will be sending four competitors to the Class AA Championships after finishing the Section 8AA Individual Championships in Pequot Lakes on Feb. 21 and 22.

Aaron Lorentz, Jack Fudge, Brian Ramos and Dawson Kellogg captured Section 8AA Championship wins in their respective weight classes and will be competing at the Xcel Energy Center on Feb. 28 and 29.

Aaron Lorentz will carry with him a 30-8 record into the Class AA Championships at 106. He posted a perfect 3-0 mark on his way to the championship. Lorentz defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton’s Gabe Schmitz by fall in 19 seconds. He earned a semifinal win with an 11-5 decision win over Thief River Falls’ Kale Geiser. He captured the championship when he defeated Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus’ Owen Carlson by a 5-1 decision.

Lorentz will open the Class AA Championships against Big Lake’s Nolan Reiter. Reiter holds a 38-3 mark overall.

Jack Fudge takes a 35-2 mark with him into the Class AA Championships after posting a perfect 3-0 mark at the Section 8AA Championships. Fudge opened the competition with a pin at the one minute and one second mark of his opening match with United Clay Becker’s Jacob Beaudine-Schlick.

Fudge followed with a victory over Detroit Lakes’ Thad Schlauderaff with a 20-4 technical fall victory in the semifinals. Fudge captured the championship with a 6-1 decision win over DGF’s Jordan Summers.

Fudge earned the No. 4 seed for the Class AA Championships. He will open the event against Marshall’s Noah Jensen. Jensen is 26-11 overall on the season.

Ramos bruised through the competition at 170 pounds and will take a 32-5 record into the Class AA Championships. Ramos went 2-0 on his way to the title. He defeated Thief River Falls’ Aaron Bruggeman in the semifinals by a 19-3 technical fall. He followed with an 11-5 decision win over Blaine Henderson in the championship.

Ramos earned the No. 8 seed for the Class AA Championships and will face Tri City United’s Brody Rud, who enters with a 21-10 record.

Dawson Kellogg will hope to build on a pair of place winning performances at previous Class AA Championships when he enters as the No. 1 seed at 195. Kellogg posted a perfect 2-0 mark at 195 during the Section 8AA Championships and boasts a 28-3 record overall.

Kellogg defeated PL/PR-B’s Corbin Knapp in the semifinals by pin at the 1:15 mark in the opening period. Kellogg captured the championship at 195 when he defeated TRF’s Mason Iverson by a 7-0 decision.

Kellogg enters as the No. 1 seed and will open the Class AA Championships against Tri-City United’s Jose Reyes. Reyes enters the competition with a 33-8 record overall.

Perham’s Gabe Bellefeuille finished in third place at 132, while Blake Lorentz was third at 138. Rowdie Lindquist finished in fourth at 285, while Josh Mellema was fifth at 120, Gareth Covington was fifth at 126 as was Gordon Enyart at 182. Dominic Gottwalt came in fifth at 220. Kaden Feldt finished in sixth place at 113. Braylon Rach came in eighth place at 145, while Isaac Lung was eighth at 160.

The four Yellowjacket wrestlers will begin their bid for a Class AA Championship on Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
