Perham-The Perham Yellowjacket wrestling team has been dominant at home this season. The Yellowjackets continued that dominance with a 66-3 victory over Ottertail Central on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Prairie Wind Middle School gymnasium. The Yellowjackets have won three dual meets and the KLN Invitational this year. “The kids wrestled hard and it’s fun to be home,” Perham Head Coach Robb Moser said. “It was great to have the band here with snow week going on, it was just a fun, cool night. It started out awesome with Leighton Rach having a great win over the 10th rated guy in the state. For him to pick up that win, it set the momentum for the rest of the night.” Rach started the ball rolling for Perham. He defeated Ben Naddy, 8-6, by decision. Rach had a big second period with a two-point reversal into a 3-point near fall. Naddy eventually tied the match in the third period; however, Rach closed it with a two-point reversal, picking up the 8-6 win.
“Rach hit a nice Granby for five points and I think he got some more confidence there. He finished with a great third period,” Moser said. “Dylan Fudge wrestled a nice controlled match against a kid that gives him fits all the time.” Fudge was victorious over Nate Hart at 113. Fudge recorded a two-point takedown in the third period, earning the narrow 8-7 decision victory. He is wrestling up a weight, both Tuesday and tonight, he had wrestled real well,” Moser said. “We saw a lot of improvement out of him.” Chase Curtis ran Perham’s win streak to five, with a quick pin over Alex Erlandson at 132. Ottertail Central’s Sam Naddy earned the lone points for the Bulldogs at 138. He defeated Tyler Fudge, 8-4. Today, he got another pin just like Tuesday.” The Perham Yellowjackets quickly return to action on Friday. The Yellowjackets will be defending their Heart O’ Lakes/Mid-State Conference championship on Friday and Saturday at Lake Park/Audubon High School. “It may not have the full 12-13 man brackets, but there are some eight man brackets that will be tougher than some section tournaments,’ Moser said. “We tell our kids if you can come out as Heart O’Lakes/Mid-State champion, it’s a nice feather in your cap. For us, it’s one of the last things, we build up to this. We take the conference meet seriously, and we think every team should be ready to go.
