The Perham gymnastics team is peaking at the right time. The Yellowjackets closed out the historic Hauer Gymnasium with a 146.40-145.30 victory over the second-ranked team in Class AA Sartell on Feb. 6.
The Yellowjackets bested their previous season-best score which was set earlier in the week with a dual meet against Fergus Falls.
The Yellowjackets finished the final home meet and final event at the Hauer Gymnasium with a score of 146.40, which is a season best. The Yellowjackets hope to continue that momentum into the Section 8A Championships on Feb. 15 in Morris.
The Yellowjackets are hoping to dethrone the Detroit Lakes Lakers and reclaim the top spot in the section. However, the Yellowjackets will have to contend with Melrose as well for the team title. Perham defeated Melrose at the Class A Invitational, but Melrose earned a head-to-head win against Perham a couple weeks after.
Jada Olsen was the all-around winner. She finished with a score of 38.275. Sartell’s Marley Michaud finished second at 36.80, while Carly Yang was third for Saratell at 36.45. Perham’s Dena Fischer finished fourth at 35.90 and Ali Boschee rounded out the top five with a 35.65.

Olsen finished first in all four events on her way to the all-around win. She posted a 9.80 on vault, a 9.50 on bars, a 9.37 on beam and a 9.60 on floor for the win.
Fisher finished the event with a 9.05 on vault, a 9.05 on bars, an 8.75 on beam and a 9.05 on the floor.
Avery McAllister scored a 9.25 on vault, 9.15 on beam and a 9.225 on the floor. Amber Teberg finished with an 8.925 on the vault, and a 7.70 on bars. Breahna Rodewald closed with an 8.65 on the vault, an 8.00 on beam and a 9.15 on the floor.
Kassidy Kovar finished with an 8.40 on the bars, while Brittney Lorentz came in with an 8.75. Lorentz finished with a 9.15 on beam and a 9.275 on the floor for Perham.
The Section 8A Championships begin at 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Morris Elementary School.

The Perham gymnastics team closed out its road portion of their schedule with one of their best performances of the season when they defeated Fergus Falls 145.575-134.550 on Feb. 4.
The Yellowjackets were led by Jada Olsen and Dena Fischer in the all-around. Olsen captured the event title with a 38.525, while Fischer followed in second place with a 35.900.
Olsen continued her dominant ways when she finished first on all four events. She hit for a 9.85 on the vault, a 9.60 on bars, a 9.425 on the beam and a 9.65 on the floor for the sweep.
Fischer was third on the vault with a 9.05, second on the bars with a 9.15, third on the beam with a 9.05 and fifth on the floor with an 8.65.
Avery McAllister finished second on the vault with a 9.50, second on beam with a 9.20 and was second on the floor with a 9.35.
Amber Teber finished with an 8.85 on the vault and a 7.45 on the bars. Breahna Rodewald recorded an 8.85 on the vault, an 8.35 on the beam and an 8.50 on the floor.
Brittney Lorentz finished with an 8.55 on the bars and a 9.05 on the beam. Kassidy Kovar hit for an 8.15 on the bars. Steph Bernstetter finished with an 8.45 on the floor.
