The Perham boys tennis team lost its first meet of the season to Minnewaska Area by a score of 7-2 Thursday, April 22, at Perham.

The two wins for the Yellowjackets came from Mikey Schwantz at 2nd singles and Jack Fudge/Soren Anderson at 1st doubles. Schwantz beat Minnewaska Area's Damon Uhde in a couple of close matches 7-6, 6-4. Fudge/Anderson defeated Logan Maanum/Konner Hanson in three matches 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

First-year head coach Peterson said about the victories, "They both had tough matches but played with persistence and pulled through with a win."

A couple of the Yellowjacket losses were close. At 1st singles, Perham's Josh Peterson lost to Tate Reichman 3-6, 4-6, and at 3rd singles, Jack Birkeland was defeated by Minnewaska Area's Gannon Walsh 6-7, 3-6.

Despite the losses, Peterson is encouraged by what she saw. "[They] had close matches against a couple of very good players and they had some really good, hard hitting points," Peterson said. "It was good to get all the players on the court with live matches to see where they are sitting and what we need to work on," she said.
