The Perham Yellowjacket girls tennis team started the Perham Quadrangular with its first win of the season, knocking off East Grand Forks, 5-2, however, the day turned from that point on, dropping a 5-2 decision to Pequot Lakes and a 6-1 decision to Roseau at the Perham Tennis Courts on Sept. 1.

The Yellowjackets broke through for that much needed first win when they cruised to victory over East Grand Forks. It snapped a five match dual meet skid for the Yellowjackets.

Senior No. 1 singles player, Josie Beachy, was a perfect 3-0 on the day for Perham. She broke through after facing five state qualifiers from last year, and rolled to three straight set victories on Sept. 1. She defeated East Grand Forks, Emma Dietrich, 6-0, 6-2, starting the day off. She followed with a straight set victory over Roseau's Jodi Ostroski, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and closed the day with a straight set win over Pequot Lakes' Alyssa Golden, 6-3, 6-4.

Makayla Melvin was 2-0 on the day in singles action at No. 2 singles. She defeated Roseau's Jenna Dietrich, 6-4, 6-3, before knocking off Pequot Lakes' Mallory Goerges in three sets, 6-4, 2-6 and 10-1 in a tiebreaker.

Brianna Schwantz went 1-1 on the afternoon, she rolled in straight sets, knocking off Bailey McMahon, 6-1, 6-1, in the day's first match against Roseau. She faltered against Pequot Lakes' Alex Stone, dropping the match in straight sets, 1-6, 2-6.
