The Perham/New York Mills girls tennis team knew they were in for a battle when they hosted Staples-Motley on Sept. 24 at the Perham Tennis Courts.
The Yellowjackets were up for the challenge when they earned a 5-2 victory over the visiting Cardinals.
The Yellowjackets cruised in three of the four singles matches, while taking two of the three doubles matches.
The lone singles win for the Cardinals came at No. 1 singles when Lauren Rutten defeated Kiera Radniecki in straight sets.
Avery Beachy picked up a singles win for Perham/NYM at No. 2 singles against Allison Knosalla in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

Mallory Belka knocked off Kenzie Erickson in straight sets at No. 3 singles. Belka rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Jaden Hackel defeated Nicki Carter in straight sets at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1, earning the third singles point for the Yellowjackets.
Staples-Motley’s Haley Cichos and Jenna Dvorak defeated LaVonne Lindberg and Kendra Moris at No. 1 singles. Cichos and Dvorak won in straight sets 6-0, 6-3.
Katie Johnson and Maggie Trites earned a tough 6-4, 6-3 victory over Rose Han and Georgia Kruchten.
Grayce Mickelson and Maya Radniecki picked up a close 7-6 (2) and 6-4 victory over Amy Rollins and Corrine Olson at No. 3 doubles.
The Yellowjackets improved their season mark to 6-4 overall. The Yellowjackets close out the regular season with a home contest against Wadena-Deer Creek on Oct. 1 at the Perham Tennis Courts at 4:30 p.m.
