Organizers of the WE Fest country music festival, which wrapped its three-day run at Detroit Lakes' Soo Pass Ranch on Saturday, are already busy gearing up for its 40th anniversary celebration in 2023.
Craig Samborski said it's almost like a religion. People have wept with joy upon seeing it for the first time. They’ve flown to the U.S. from Japan and other countries to see it in person. A young couple each had the duck tattooed on their ankles and tracked him down to take a selfie. He gets at least a dozen emails a day from fans.
Thousands of country music fans gathered at Soo Pass Ranch, outside of Detroit Lakes, on Thursday for the annual WE Fest country music festival, which runs through Aug. 6. Country music superstar Jason Aldean headlined the first night's music, which also included performances from: Chris Janson, Blanco Brown, Elvie Shane, and Hitchville, throughout the day.

Fair officials said the 1,200 open positions are among more than 2,700 employees hired each year to staff the fair, which runs Aug. 25-Sept. 5. Positions include ticket sellers, ticket takers, parking and park & ride attendants, barn attendants and custodians.

The 2nd Annual Intrepid Adventure Film Festival will include live music, yoga and youth activities as well as 16 short films focused on outdoor adventures.
Fireballs, smoke and costume changes all featured prominently during Friday night's Bash on the Beach in Detroit Lakes as Hairball performed the classics and thrilled the outdoor, sold-out crowd as part of the 86th Northwest Water Carnival on July 15.
Correction: The ice cream social event listed in last week's Happenings as occurring on July 16 at St. Henry's Catholic Church actually took place on June 16. There is no ice cream social at St. Henry's this week, though there will be one at Calvary Lutheran Church on Thursday.
