Otter Tail County on Ice kicked off Friday, Feb. 8. Dozens of staff members stormed the ice to put on a musical festival. The event took place on frozen Otter Tail Lake. The lake was a literal frozen tundra on Friday night. Cold so extreme that heat generators malfunctioned, fingers froze, and people had to huddle into the event tent to keep warm. This is the second year of the event and cold temperatures are nothing new. Last year temperatures plummeted and OTC on Ice partied through the cold.

New Perham High School opens up, impresses the public
Early Sunday morning fire erupted from Suds Tavern in downtown Perham. The start of Christmas vacation for many was interrupted by an inferno that quickly spread to adjacent buildings. Suds Tavern and Make Me Wine were completely destroyed in the fire. A pile of charred wood and debris dominated the city block, which was once home to the popular bustling bar, where many remember having their first drink, hanging out with friends, or watching a game or two. Suds is no more, only piles of burnt wood and furniture are left of the establishment.
Firefighters are at the scene of a three-store fire in Perham Sunday morning. Suds, Masterpiece Vapors and Make Me Wine are reportedly the businesses on fire. We have a reporter on the scene and will bring more details as they are available.
Justin Roggenkamp and his son, Brice, woke early on a cold day in November. Rifle season was in full swing, and the two had much work ahead of them before they could begin their hunt. Justin and Brice, like many Minnesotans, love to hunt. However, the father-son duo have other challenges that need to be overcome in order to get that big buck. Brice needs a wheelchair to get around.

Crowds of people huddled along Perham's Main Street the day after Thanksgiving for the community's annual Parade of Lights. Families eagerly waited for floats adorned with lights and holiday decor to make their way down the long stretch of road. Shortly after sunset, Perham Mayor Tim Meehl kicked off the evening's festivities by lighting the town's Christmas tree. Large crowds of people applauded as Meehl hastily made his way from NP Park to his own float a few blocks away.
Citizens and business owners in Otter Tail County are critical of the newly passed ordinance to raise the purchasing age of tobacco from 18 to 21. On Nov. 13 the Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners passed the controversial T21 ordinance making it illegal for individuals under the age of 21 to purchase tobacco. Residents of Otter Tail County took to Facebook to vent these frustrations. Users lambasted the decision and county government, some accusing them of infringing on consumer rights and negatively impacting area businesses.
