DENT, Minn. — Cleanup crews were on scene at the Dischers' house on Dead Lake on Saturday, July 25, as they hacked and chipped up pieces of downed trees from an overnight storm.
"It was a heck of a roar around 3 (a.m.) or so," said Darrell Discher, who was woken up by the storm.
Discher woke up to pieces of his dock in his backyard, but his house by the lake was mostly spared, except for a little damage underneath the roof.

"When (Discher) came running down the stairs, I thought there was a tree on top of the house," said Brandon Hoyme, Discher's grandson. "It was nuts; it was crazy."
Discher's Jet Skis were also left untouched, but the wind pulled his pontoon to the other side of the dock.
Luckily for Discher, it was still in good enough condition to ride on Saturday, but he can't say the same for others along the lake.
"The neighbors' boat and canopy (being tipped), that's more than straight-line winds in my book," Discher said. "Look at the trees and how mangled they are."
As they took a look at the damage around the lake Saturday afternoon, Discher believes it could've been much worse.
"It's just total destruction, and I don't really ever want to see something like this again, or hear a roar like that," he said. "It was unbelievable."

For their neighbors, and for themselves, the Dischers said they're happy no one was hurt, as they all recover from the shock of an in-and-out storm.
"I guess we've got our lives," Darrell Discher said.
"Yep, that's all that matters," Hoyme added. "That's all that we can say now."
